A pattern seed is a number from 0 to 1000 that places the finish on a CS2 skin. It changes the price only on a few finishes: Case Hardened (blue gems), Fade (fade percentage), Doppler phases, Marble Fade and Crimson Web.
What a pattern seed is
Every skin also carries a pattern seed, a whole number from 0 to 1000. It decides where the finish sits on the weapon. On most skins nobody notices; on a few finishes it changes the look, and the price, completely.
Where the seed matters
- Case Hardened: how much of the weapon is blue. The bluest seeds are the blue gems; AK-47 seed 661 is the best known. See the AK-47 Case Hardened tier list.
- Fade: how much of the fade shows, quoted as a fade percentage (a 100% fade is the fullest).
- Doppler and Gamma Doppler: the phase is fixed per item, and phases are sold as different items: Doppler Phase 1 to 4, Ruby, Sapphire and Black Pearl; Gamma Doppler Phase 1 to 4 and Emerald. Inside a phase the seed still moves the look.
- Marble Fade: the colour layout, with names such as Fire and Ice; Crimson Web: where the webs sit and how centred they are.
Tierlisten
A tier list groups the seeds of one finish by how they look, best tier first, and gives what each tier sells for. CSPricer has 236 Tierlisten (23 Case Hardened, 27 Fade, 144 Doppler). Add ?seed=661 to a tier list's address to mark one seed.

How many pattern seeds are there in CS2?
1,001: every skin has a seed from 0 to 1000. It only changes the look on finishes such as Case Hardened, Fade, Doppler, Marble Fade and Crimson Web.
What is a blue gem?
A Case Hardened skin whose pattern seed puts the most blue on the visible side. The best seeds of each weapon are named in its Case Hardened tier list.
Are Doppler phases different items?
Yes. Each phase (Phase 1 to 4, Ruby, Sapphire, Black Pearl, and Emerald for Gamma Doppler) is its own item with its own price and its own page.
